GOD’s “Much More” is much more than enough!!
Romans 5:9-10 – “And there is still much more to say of His unfailing love for us! For through the blood of JESUS we have heard the powerful declaration, “You are now righteous in My sight.” And because of the sacrifice of JESUS, you will never experience the wrath of GOD. 10 So if while we were still enemies, GOD fully reconciled us to Himself through the death of His Son, then something greater than friendship is ours. Now that we are at peace with GOD, and because we share in His resurrected life, how much more will we be rescued from sin’s dominion.”
Have you noticed how it’s easy for us humans to have faith in restaurants and trust that they will keep their word and bring us our food? Do we just as easily trust GOD will keep HIS Word?
In Romans 5:10, the word reconciled is actually “exchanged”. When I think of the word “exchanged”, I may think of trading a blue t-shirt for a white one – or maybe a smaller sized shoe for a larger one – that’s what comes to mind. But if you think of trading the chains and trap of sin for JESUS resurrected life – THERE. IS. NO. COMPARISON. JESUS’ life is MUCH MORE!
Paul is comparing and contrasting between Adam’s sin and CHRIST’S redemption. It’s not the same as taking your tennis shoes off and slipping into sandals to let your toes be free and your feet air out. Verse 15 reminds us that it is true that many died because of one man’s sin, but how much greater will GOD’S Grace and His gracious gift of acceptance overflow (multiply, superabound) to many because of what JESUS, the Messiah, did for us! 16 And this free-flowing gift imparts to us much more than what was given to us through the one who sinned.”
GOD’S way of redeeming us is MUCH MORE effective than the fall that made us sinners!! Verse 17 says that death reigned as king because of one man’s blunder, BUT NOW, how much more are we held in the grip of Grace and continue reigning as kings in life… because of what JESUS did for us! And verse 19 confirms, One man’s disobedience opened the door for all humanity to become sinners. So also One Man’s obedience opened the door for many to be made perfectly right with GOD and acceptable to Him.
Wherever sin increased, there was more than enough of GOD’s Grace to overthrow it and triumph over it! This Grace is a sin-conquering, mountain moving, life imparting – not just superabundant, but super-hyperabundant, overcoming, abounding Grace! This is so much more than just an exchange of clothes!
If these scriptures are true (and we know that they are), then when we are struggling with guilt or shame or fear or worry – what is it we are actually worried about? Isn’t it all about doubt? In our own minds, we are not sure that what GOD has said here through His servant Paul is actually true… and why don’t we just admit it – we don’t believe what JESUS told us is true – that HE has overcome this world!! (John 16:33) That’s why we worry – we don’t believe. We doubt whether GOD is going to come through (usually because He’s not working in our time frame or in the way we might like to see it happen).
“Let us enjoy Peace with GOD.” (Rom 5:1) Believe HIM! When we are begging Him over and over for victory (I keep picturing someone at a table in a restaurant – and every time the server walks by, begging them over and over to bring the food)… this is a refusal to understand and to believe that we have died to the old nature and the effects it has on us. Our only joyful task is to remind ourselves of GOD’S goodness and faithfulness, and believe the Good News! Sin is not just suppressed on the cross; it is eliminated!! Believe the Truth!
JESUS is beckoning us to come out on the “water” of Truth – to step out and walk upon it, for we are now in Him! Look at Romans 6:4-5 – “We have been co-resurrected with Him so that we could be empowered to walk in the freshness of new life. 5 For since we are permanently grafted into Him to experience a death like His, then we are permanently grafted into Him to experience a resurrection like His and the new life that it imparts.”
Romans 6:11 – “consider yourselves to be dead to sin, but alive to GOD in CHRIST.” (TPT) “Since you are now joined with Him, you must continually view yourselves as dead and unresponsive to sin’s appeal while living daily for GOD’s pleasure in union with JESUS…” Notice that WE “consider” – WE “continually view”. Because sin is constantly making an appeal to be heard! We will be tempted to give in to the worry and doubt – that’s how it works. It doesn’t just go away. It flies through our minds on a daily basis. But we choose not to give it an audience – we choose instead to please GOD by choosing Him and His Word – His Truth. Alive to Him and His new nature He has given us, and dead to the old nature.
It’s like phone calls. We all keep our phones close to us and hear it when it rings. Do you answer every phone call that comes to you? Do you ever choose to “decline” the call? We need to learn to “decline” the worry – ignore the fear and fill ourselves with the Truth of GOD’s Word by accepting every call to Grace and Love.
He tells us in Romans 5:1 JESUS’ righteousness has been transferred to us and He now declares us to be flawless in His eyes! We can now enjoy true and lasting peace with GOD because of what JESUS did! These are not my words – they are His Words! Go to Romans 5 and read them for yourself…. verse 19 says we are made perfectly right with GOD and acceptable to Him! Choose to think on these truths when the old nature calls – decline the call of the old mindset and choose life! Romans 6:14 – “For sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace.”
Sin will not conquer you, for GOD already has!!
